What will your day look like?
As a Children's Commissioning Finance Officer, no two days are the same. You'll play a key role in supporting Children's Services by providing expert financial management, monitoring budgets, forecasting expenditure, and producing reports that inform important decision-making.
You'll analyse financial information and trends, helping managers understand risks, opportunities and spending patterns. You'll work closely with colleagues across Children's Services, finance teams and external providers to ensure financial processes are followed and statutory responsibilities are met.
A significant part of the role involves overseeing financial processes linked to children's residential, fostering, supported accommodation and education places, ensuring payments are accurate, timely and represent value for money. You'll also contribute to reports for senior leaders and support continuous improvement across commissioning services.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for a motivated and detail-oriented finance professional who can provide high-quality financial support within Children's Services.
You'll be someone who is confident working with financial data, able to manage competing priorities, and committed to delivering excellent customer service. You'll enjoy building positive working relationships and using your financial expertise to support effective decision-making.
You'll bring:
- Experience of financial transactions, budget monitoring, forecasting and management reporting.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends, risks and opportunities from financial information.
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence using financial and payment systems.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to a range of audiences.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure whilst meeting deadlines.
- Experience of developing effective working relationships with colleagues, providers and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of children's social care and education funding and commissioning arrangements, or the ability to develop this expertise.
- A minimum Level 5 National Qualifications and Credit Framework qualification relevant to finance, or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
