
General Needs Maintenance Operative (Voids)
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated General Needs Maintenance Operatives to join our Voids team in our Housing Services. You will play a vital role in improving the quality of life for our tenants by delivering high-standard domestic repairs, enhancing communal areas, and supporting housing management services.
This is a hands-on role that combines practical maintenance work with tenant engagement, block inspections, and conflict resolution. You will be the face of the Council in our communities.
You will be responsible for carrying out a wide range of domestic repairs and improvements in tenant homes, including basic carpentry, plumbing, and lock replacement, along with:
Maintaining and enhancing communal areas such as hedge trimming, weeding, and internal redecoration.
Conducting block inspections and identifying health & safety or fire risks.
Supporting urgent repairs and ensuring properties are made safe quickly and effectively.
Using petrol-powered tools to clear overgrown gardens and communal spaces.
Assisting with estate inspections and enforcement compliance.
It is essential that you have a practical mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and a genuine desire to help others and have:
Good literacy and numeracy skills, with the ability to maintain clear and accurate records.
Experience in general domestic repairs and home improvements, including basic carpentry and gardening tasks like mowing and hedge trimming.
A clean driving license and the ability to travel across the borough.
Confidence in dealing with the general public, including tenants with health conditions or challenging behaviour.
