Waverley Borough Council is seeking a Greenspaces Monitoring Officer to join our Environmental Services team based in Godalming, Surrey, on a full-time maternity cover contract. This fixed-term opportunity offers the chance to make a real impact by helping to maintain and improve the quality of our parks, play areas, cemeteries, sports pitches, and open spaces across the borough.

We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills, and a practical approach to problem-solving. As a Greenspaces Monitoring Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring the performance of the Council’s Grounds Maintenance and other environmental contracts to ensure that services are delivered to the highest standards.

You will carry out regular and ad-hoc inspections across a range of green spaces, investigate and resolve complaints, and work closely with contractors, residents, sports clubs, and community groups to ensure our facilities are safe, attractive, and well maintained.

You will also play a key role in collecting data, reporting on performance, and identifying opportunities for improvement. The role requires a confident and organised individual who can interpret and apply contract specifications and service level agreements, respond effectively to customer enquiries, and manage competing priorities.

With good people and technology skills, you will have extensive experience of working with contractors, and you will need to be able to produce accurate written reports and correspondence. This is the perfect opportunity to demonstrate your strong communication skills and ability to identify and respond to customer needs

A full, valid driving licence is required, and you must be willing to attend site inspections as part of the role.

At Waverley, we value collaboration, wellbeing, professionalism, and value for money. You will be joining a supportive and motivated team who are committed to providing excellent public services and maintaining the high quality of our green spaces.

This is a maternity cover position, offering a great opportunity to gain valuable experience within a respected local authority and to contribute meaningfully to the care and enhancement of Waverley’s green spaces.

If you are enthusiastic about making a visible difference to local communities and helping to protect and enhance Waverley’s parks and open spaces, we would love to hear from you.
