About the team

Do you enjoy and have experience in property maintenance and repairs? We are looking for a handy person to join our team, who will be working within short break service for adults with various disabilities, staff office areas and other onsite buildings used by staff and people we support.

About the role

The handy person’s role is to ensure the buildings, outside areas and environments are:

  • Meet H&S and HCC requirements
  • Well maintained
  • Fixtures and fittings are in good order and areas are in good state of decoration
  • Residential areas are homely

Other general job responsibilities:

  • Plan and prioritise tasks
  • Working from a folder where staff detail jobs required
  • Collection of materials for jobs required
  • Driving of our pool car to collect items for repairs and impromptu trips in the pool car required in response to short notice emergencies alongside support staff
  • General maintenance such as gardening, decorating, carpentry tasks, putting together furniture, window cleaning, changing lightbulbs and salting grounds during cold weather
  • Responding flexibly to emergencies during the day
  • Use of tools and power tools which are provided
  • Working closely with contractors employed by the housing provider
  • Good ICT skills to enable reporting of repairs via email and organisation skills to ensure all local records are kept up to date
  • Reporting and monitoring repairs both internally and via the housing association according to procedures in place

About you

Essential:

  • Full Driving Licence
  • Experience with property maintenance

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Health and Safety
  • Experience of Painting and Decorating
  • Experience with furniture building
  • Experience working in a social care setting
