Job summary

There couldn’t be a better time to work in Affordable Housing at Homes England following the biggest settlement announced as part of recent Spending Review of a 10 year £39bn Social and Affordable Homes Programme. You will be part of the team working closely with government and partners across the sector to build the new programme as well as deliver against existing commitments. We are looking for individuals excited and motivated by the opportunity to shape future delivery and ways of working, as Homes England moves to a more regional and place-based operating model.

We are looking for two exceptional leaders to hit the ground running leading new business development and working regionally to leverage in affordable homes funding to increase deliver of quality sustainable homes, tackle affordability and make a real difference in the lives of people and communities.

Job description

Working in the Regional teams we are looking for highly motivated individuals to lead on new affordable housing business development. This will involve building the pipeline to meet local priorities, progressing growth opportunities with strategic interventions, and the delivery of the Social and Affordable Homes Programme in partnership with Enhanced Mayoral Strategic Authorities. Focused on a regional geography you will be working through multi-disciplinary teams to unlock complex significant housing and regeneration schemes and provide leadership of the SHAP through Strategic Place Partnerships. You will work collaboratively as part of a wider Homes England team improving places across the regions and delivering the homes that are needed.

You will need to build highly effective relationships with a diverse range of partners including RP’s, Local Authorities, FPRP’s and new entrants from across the housing sector. Your relationship and collaboration with both established and emerging EMSA’s will be critical to ensuring successful delivery. You will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the delivery models for affordable housing, including innovative approaches to funding to meet local priorities. With excellent strategic and leadership skills you will translate strategy into targeted delivery that responses to the needs of places.

You will lead a highly skilled and motivated team focused on supporting the sector to increase delivery, maximising opportunities for investment and meet local ambitions.

Person specification

You should excel at leadership, partnership working and collaboration, be an excellent communicator, and have an extensive network of industry leads across the sector with an understanding of funding models and delivery of affordable housing. It is essential that you can work collaboratively and develop effective relationships both internally and externally, work within a political environment and adapt your style to maximise contributions from a diverse range of partners.

You will need to demonstrate extensive knowledge of the affordable housing sector, understanding of development and viability appraisals as well as regional and local housing markets.

The Midlands role will be based in Birmingham and the East of England role will be based in Northstowe. You must be prepared to attend the office on a hybrid basis. You must also be prepared to travel, as you be working with partners and places across a wide regional geography and be working as part of a nationally organisation.
