Job summary

We are currently looking for a Head of Business Analysis to join our Digital and Service Design Function within the Digital and Technology group.

This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis. The role will be based in 7-8 Wellington Place, Leeds. There will be a requirement to travel to other MHRA sites as needed.

Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60% attendance in office sites.

We are currently implementing a flexible, hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, this can flex up to 12 days a month, with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly. Remote working is potentially available for some specific roles. Please discuss this with the recruiting manager before accepting an appointment.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research.

The Digital and Technology Group (DTG) lies at the heart of the Agency and is responsible for delivering an optimised IT infrastructure and maximising the secure use of data to enable our scientists, inspectors, and the rest of the organisation to deliver world class services which can improve outcomes for patients and the general public. The Group was essential in the race to approve COVID-19 vaccines in 2020 and in supporting the UK to set up its own medicines and devices approvals systems following our exit from the EU.

What’s the role?

The Head of Business Analysis is responsible for maturing and leading the Business Analysis practice for the Agency. You will have the opportunity to further enhance the business analysis capability to help deliver MHRA priorities. You’ll work with multi-disciplinary teams of professionals, including User Centred Design, Product and Change Managers, Solution and Enterprise Architects and Delivery partners. Your work will be pivotal to the development of new digital and data products and services throughout the Agency.

Key responsibilities:

  • As a member of Senior Leadership Group, you will support the Deputy Director in wider leadership activities which support the needs and priorities of MHRA, including financial, commercial and risk management;
  • Responsible for developing and shaping strategies to drive awareness of the business analysis profession, building the influence of the team and supporting services across the organisation by embedding the practice;
  • Directly manage a team of Business Analysts ensuring effective deployment to meet demand and targets as well as managing performance;
  • Responsible for shaping the Business Analysis practice and improving ways of working by embedding a consistent and high-quality professional framework and standards. Contribute to the on-going development of Business Analysis tools and methods, to support the delivery of services within the organisation, providing direction and guidance to the team. Apply and champion the application of agreed methodologies, tools and frameworks and embed within the organisation;
  • Ensure business analysis outputs are captured and agreed by stakeholders;
  • Accountable for ways of working with colleagues across the business, including service delivery teams and the wider organisation, applying business analysis to benefit the work we do and assuring quality and standards.

Technical Criteria:

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent experience (A)

Benefits

Alongside your salary of £71,835, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency contributes £20,810 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Find out what benefits a Civil Service Pension provides.
