Job summary

The Head of Education Marketing will drive the growth, reach, impact, and reputation of the British Council’s global education portfolio by leading strategic, insight‑driven marketing. The role strengthens income generation by clearly communicating impact to funders, supports the organisation’s shift toward digital delivery, oversees marketing commitments for funded work, and builds a high‑performing team. Central to the role is championing an audience‑centric, cohesive approach across the organisation and maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Job description

The role leads the development and delivery of the Education marketing strategy, ensuring a data‑driven, audience‑focused approach across all global campaigns and programmes. It oversees performance management, brand alignment, and the creation of compelling marketing proposals for contracts and bids. Working closely with Corporate Communications, regional teams and external suppliers, the role ensures integrated, high‑quality delivery and effective use of resources. It applies deep marketing expertise to shape market‑development strategies, solve complex challenges, and drive continuous improvement in effectiveness, efficiency and ROI. The role also manages budgets and reporting, strengthens internal and external stakeholder relationships, and provides inspirational leadership to the Education marketing team, setting direction, building capability, and supporting long‑term business planning.

Person specification

  • Degree or professional qualification in marketing, communications or business or demonstrable level of equivalent experience
  • Proven experience managing complex global marketing programmes
  • Experience leading a team within a large and complex organisation
  • Highly experienced in the design and delivery of marketing strategies and plans to support programmes/products
  • Experience in effectively negotiating budgets and resources with senior stakeholders
  • Thorough knowledge of strategic planning and budgeting management.
