Job summary
The Head of Event Design and Community Outreach will lead a bold, high impact programme of events and public‑ facing‑ activity that positions the Senedd as a vibrant focal point of Welsh life. You will set the creative and strategic direction for an events and community outreach service that delivers exceptional experiences for communities across Wales.
You will guide multidisciplinary teams responsible for every stage of event delivery—from concept and storytelling, to production, audience experience and evaluation—bringing together creativity, precision planning and an unwavering focus on quality. Central to the role is providing strategic leadership to specialist event designers who turn complex ideas, parliamentary work and national moments into accessible, engaging and relatable experiences for people across Wales.
A key priority is ensuring the events and community outreach programme is innovative, meaningful and fully aligned with the Commission’s Communications and Engagement strategy, helping people understand, connect with and participatein the democratic work of the Senedd.
Pattern of Working:This is a temporary position working 20 hours per week. Occasional weekend, and evening working is expected as part of this role, and there will be occasions when the successful applicant will be required to stay overnight to support our engagement programmes across Wales.
Job description
- Set the strategic vision and direction to plan and deliver an annual events and community outreach calendar aligned to the Communications & Engagement objectives, prioritising under‑represented audiences and community partners.
- Scope each event / outreach activity (purpose, audience, outcomes) and create delivery plans, risk assessments, budgets and resource allocations for activity delivered both on and off the Senedd estate.
- Curate engaging content that connect people with the Senedd’s role and work; ensure bilingual content and inclusive formats (BSL, captions, easy‑read) as appropriate.
- Build and maintain strong senior level‑ relationships with key stakeholders across Wales, ensuring regular communication, shared understanding of priorities, and effective collaboration to maximise audience reach through event / community outreach activity.
- Support Head of Service on major events, such as the Official Opening of Parliament, to lead on event design and content translating high‑level objectives into compelling programmes and ceremonial moments.
- Develop, manage and lead a multi-disciplinary team working full / part time, weekends and bank holidays, and those working remotely. Fostering a culture which focuses on excellent customer service and continuous improvement to be able to engage and deliver credibly with a wide range of audiences and key stakeholders.
- Develop and manage governance arrangements including: meeting KPIs as determined in the Communications and Engagement Strategy, evaluating each event / outreach activity, managing a budget, managing risk, business continuity arrangements and ensure Standard Operating Procedures are up to date.
Person specification
- Significant experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team.
- Highly skilled influencer and negotiator – who is diplomatic and experienced in dealing with senior stakeholders.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain innovative and engaging events and experiences ideally in a high-profile setting.
- Excellent Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with partners internal and external to deliver a first-class service for a range of diverse stakeholders.
- Exceptional organisational skills with a strong ability to forward plan.
