Job description

Would you like to work on the development and implementation of live legislation? Do you want to help to protect the delivery of the UK’s most essential services? If so, we are recruiting for a new G7 policy advisor to work on the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill.

The Cyber Security and Resilience Bill is a landmark piece of legislation that is currently making its way through Parliament. At its heart, the Bill is about making sure that the systems which support the UK’s most critical services are better protected than ever before against cyber-attacks and disruptions - ensuring that the taps keep running, lights stay on, hospitals keep operating. It does this by bringing more essential services and suppliers into scope of existing cyber regulation, expanding the types of incidents that need to be reported and creating new national security powers to address the most serious risks posed by cyber threats.

Person specification

To support the ongoing work on the Bill, we are looking to recruit a senior policy advisor (G7) to lead on the incident reporting and information sharing reforms we are introducing through the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill. The role holder may also have oversight of additional measures, subject to further discussion and planning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Stewarding their allocated measures through parliament and developing supplementary policy that will be brought forward in secondary legislation.
  • Briefing and advising ministers on bill measures, parliamentary strategy and proposals for the implementation of the Bill.
  • Liaising closely with the NCSC to ensure that policy is informed by robust intelligence and technical expertise.
  • Engaging closely with regulators, industry and other stakeholder groups to support the development of effective policy.

As a line manager, you will be responsible for working with your members of staff to define their objectives, as well as managing their development and performance.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience of working in regulatory and/or cyber policy.
  • Demonstrated excellence at working in technical policy areas.
  • Experience of working at pace, delivering high-quality products to tight timescales, and responding flexibly to change.
  • Excellent communicator with strong written and presentational skills.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working on legislation.
  • Experience of working on policy related to critical national infrastructure.
  • Experience of working on policy related national security.
  • Given the nature of the work, successful candidates should be willing to consider applying for DV clearance if they do not already have it, though this can be discussed.

Office attendance
