
Health and Safety Adviser
Summary
What you'll do
As a Health and Safety Adviser, you will work closely with the Head of Health and Safety to support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of Notting Hill Genesis' Health and Safety Policy and Management System. You will play a key role in embedding a strong safety and wellbeing culture across the organisation, ensuring that health and safety standards are applied consistently and effectively.
You'll provide practical advice and guidance to managers and teams across NHG, helping to ensure that risks are identified, assessed and managed appropriately for employees, residents and contractors. You'll also support incident investigations, inspections, audits and compliance activity, helping NHG meet its statutory and regulatory obligations.
As part of the Health and Safety team, you will contribute to improving the quality and consistency of risk assessments, strengthening incident response processes, and ensuring lessons learned are identified and acted upon.
How you'll do it
- Provide practical health and safety advice and guidance to managers and staff across the organisation.
- Promote and support a positive health and safety culture throughout NHG.
- Support managers in understanding and meeting required health and safety standards.
- Support and undertake investigations into health and safety accidents and incidents.
- Escalate serious incidents, risks or non-compliance issues in line with agreed thresholds.
- Maintain accurate records within the Health and Safety Management System and identify required updates.
- Assist and, where required, lead on RIDDOR and Mandatory Occurrence Reporting (MOR) processes, including liaison with external bodies.
- Work collaboratively with HR to support health and safety aspects of employee-related matters, including reasonable adjustments where appropriate.
- Lead on the development and review of health and safety policies, procedures and guidance.
- Support the delivery of health and safety projects and initiatives across the organisation.
- Undertake inspections and audits, identifying issues and supporting the completion of follow-up actions.
- Complete and review risk assessments to ensure they are suitable and sufficient.
- Undertake DSE assessment reviews where required.
- Support the delivery of health and safety training, briefings and communications.
- Support the provision of health and safety assurance through accurate reporting and evidence gathering.
- Ensure the management and maintenance of the NHG Health and Safety Management System and associated data.

Essential:
- NEBOSH General Certificate Level 3 or working towards NEBOSH Diploma Level 6.
- IOSH Membership.
- Experience working in a Health and Safety Adviser role, preferably within the housing sector.
- Experience of incident investigation, regulatory engagement and performance reporting.
- Experience of undertaking inspections and audits within a health and safety role.
- Experience of developing and implementing policies and procedures.
- Experience advising and supporting managers on health and safety matters.
- Knowledge and experience of Building Safety and Mandatory Occurrence Reporting (MOR).
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, statutory and regulatory requirements relevant to the role.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, assurance and incident investigation methodologies.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills, with the ability to produce clear and evidence-based insight.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
- Sound professional judgement when dealing with high-risk or high-profile situations.
- Intermediate IT and systems skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Salary range
- £42,632 - £47,369 per year
