We are looking for a Health and Safety Apprentice to join our busy Corporate Health and Safety (CH&S) Department.
Join a friendly and forward-thinking Health and Safety team that’s at the heart of protecting our frontline services.
CH&S is a large diverse team made up of around 25 professionals specialising in various disciplines, such as workplace safety, construction, fire and building safety as well as employee wellbeing.
Overview of the role:
You will be working in a dynamic and constantly changing environment where no two days are the same. You’ll learn from past cases and from a wide range of experienced professionals who will support your development.
You will work closely with operational teams such as repairs, maintenance, and construction. Once settled, you’ll be involved in site visits, inspections, and toolbox talks—spending around 40–50% of your time out in the field. The rest of your time will be split between office-based work and working from home.
As an apprentice, you won’t just learn the theory—you’ll be out in the field, gaining hands-on experience and making a meaningful impact every day.

Main duties and impact:
We’re looking for an ambitious individual to join our Operational Safety team and train as a Health and Safety professional. You’ll learn how to provide competent advice to help teams comply with health and safety law and best practice.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with accident and near miss investigations and site inspections
- Applying your growing knowledge of H&S legislation to review policies and procedures
- Helping to develop training materials and toolbox talks
- Gathering and interpreting H&S data and statistics for reports and how to act on findings and trends
- Assist the H&S teams in the development and monitoring of the Safety and Health Systems.
- Understanding how changes in legislation affect organisations
- The apprentice will understand how generic industry safety guidance applies in the workplace
- Practice identifying potentially harmful working practices. How to deal with hazards in accordance with legal requirements, best practice and company processes.
