We are recruiting a Health and Safety Officer at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Working hours: 37 Hours
Contract Type: Permanent, Full Time, Term time only (39 Weeks)
Location: Working hours can be split between home and office depending on specific task requirements.

We pay an attractive salary of £30,179 - £32,572 and offer access to training and development opportunities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will work with us as part of a team. The post will involve a wide variety of duties including carrying out and contributing to the delivery of health and safety services, preparation and the development of school specific policies, procedures and guidance, carrying out risk assessments, health and safety inspections and the production of written reports.

The role will be schools based with the Officer responsible for supporting a number of schools. Excellent communication skills are essential as the successful candidate will be required to build effective working relationships and provide school specific advice to Headteachers, Governors and other school based staff.

Officers may also be required to meet with Parents, Health Professionals and individuals with medical concerns. The role requires excellent general health and safety knowledge with Education specific experience desirable.

The successful applicant must hold a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent) and have demonstrable experience of advising on health and safety preferably in the Education sector.

For the role, we ask that you have:

  • Knowledge of current health and safety legislation, codes of practice etc.
  • Be IT Literate
  • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) with a wide range of customers and provide an effective service.
  • Demonstrable experience of working as a Health and Safety Officer.
  • Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel throughout the borough to visit various schools/premises covered by the SLA, attend meetings etc.
