The Opportunity
This is an exciting time to work for Derby City Council. We’re committed to improving our city and creating better life experiences for our citizens. Working in partnership across the city and with our communities, we’re focused on improving outcomes and reducing health inequalities.

Based within our award-winning Livewell service, part of the Physical Activity and Health Team, our Health Check Advisors play a vital role in helping people take the first step towards a healthier future.

Health Check Advisors deliver NHS Health Checks to eligible people across Derby’s communities and workplaces. The national NHS Health Check programme helps identify and reduce the risk of serious conditions including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and some forms of dementia. Through a friendly, person-centred approach, Health Check Advisors help people understand their health, identify their risk factors and feel empowered to make positive changes that can lead to a longer, healthier life.

No two days will be the same. The role works across a range of community and workplace settings, engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and helping us reach those who may benefit most from preventative health support.

If you’re caring, people-centred and passionate about helping others lead healthier lives, we’d love to hear from you. If you have experience of providing healthy lifestyle advice and enjoy connecting with people in their communities, this could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for.

What you’ll be doing
1. Delivering NHS Health Checks in communities and workplaces, focussing on target populations where uptake is lower.
2. Performing point-of-care testing and clinical measurements, using appropriate tools and methodologies to assess cardiovascular risk and explain these results clearly to clients.
3. Increasing awareness and up take of health checks amongst target populations by understanding their concerns and barriers and developing joint solutions.
4. Raising awareness of NHS Health Checks, the Livewell programme and wider opportunities within the Physical Activity and Health Team by arranging and attending health promotion activities and events in community and workplace settings.
About you
• A Level 5 qualification in a related subject or equivalent experience.
• A good understanding of the NHS Health Check programme and cardiovascular health.
• Experience of delivering healthy lifestyle advice.
• Confident using IT systems to manage appointments, record client information and upload data securely.
• A clear and confident communicator, able to build rapport and explain health information in a simple, supportive and accessible way.
• Organised and reliable, with the ability to manage appointments, workload and competing priorities.
• A positive team player, who enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a supportive team environment.
