Join our Construction Health & Safety Team at L&Q:

This is a great opportunity to join L&Q’s Construction Health & Safety Team and make a visible impact across complex development projects in London and the Home Counties. The role offers the chance to work closely with site teams, influence standards on live construction projects, and help shape a strong, positive safety culture. It is well suited to an ambitious health and safety professional who wants to broaden their experience and play a key role in driving high standards across multiple sites.

The role is for a Health & Safety Construction Advisor within L&Q’s Corporate Health & Safety Department. The post is focused on supporting larger and more complex in-house and third-party development projects, with responsibility for projects in the northern half of London. It is a site-based role with regular presence on development sites, providing practical advice, oversight, audit, inspection and support.

We need this role to help ensure health and safety legislation, L&Q policies, internal standards and recognised best practice are implemented consistently across our construction sites. The role is critical in supporting safe delivery, improving performance, identifying opportunities for improvement, and protecting the health, safety, wellbeing and welfare of the workforce, the public and the environment.

This role sits within the Construction Safety team, reporting to the Senior H&S Advisor. This team is part of the wider Corporate Health & Safety Department and is led by the Head of Construction Safety.

If this sounds like you, we would love for you to apply!

Your impact in the role:

  • Support all aspects of construction health and safety operations across multiple development sites.
  • Carry out site audits and inspections, identify areas for improvement, and report findings clearly.
  • Provide practical advice and support to L&Q staff, contractors and suppliers on compliance with health and safety legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Investigate site incidents and support the sharing of lessons learned.
  • Review and support the production of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Assist with toolbox talks, inductions and training activities.
  • Contribute to strategic interventions and best practice initiatives that improve health, safety, wellbeing and sustainability performance.
  • Support contractors in developing their standards and improving compliance on site.
  • Key relationships to maintain outside of the Corporate Health & Safety Team include:

    -Development Leadership & Site Teams

    -Development site teams

    -Contractors and subcontractors

    -Suppliers

    -Wider L&Q staff

-Members of the public where site activities interface with occupied environments

The postholder will help the department achieve its goals by driving compliance, improving health and safety performance, identifying risks early, supporting continuous improvement, and embedding best practice across construction projects. Through visible site engagement, inspections, investigations and practical support, the role helps ensure safe project delivery and strengthens L&Q’s overall safety culture.

What you'll bring:

  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate, or an equivalent construction-related health and safety qualification.
  • Professional membership of a relevant health and safety body, such as IOSH at minimum of Tech IOSH level or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a similar health and safety role within multi-site construction environments.

  • Good working knowledge of temporary works, scaffolding and lifting operations.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation relevant to construction and development activities.
