About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Highways Register Assistant to join our Planning service within the Neighbourhoods Directorate. In this vital role, you will help ensure Havering meets its statutory responsibilities by maintaining accurate and up-to-date records across the Highways Register, Street Naming and Numbering, and Local Land Charges.
Working closely with the Local Land Charges Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of essential public registers, supporting customers including residents, solicitors, developers, and internal services.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintain, update and amend the Highways Register in line with statutory requirements under the Highways Act 1980.
• Manage all aspects of Street Naming and Numbering in accordance with legislation.
• Support Local Land Charges searches and ensure timely turnaround.
• Update electronic and manual records, including GIS systems and registers.
• Respond to enquiries from solicitors, the public and internal teams.
• Assist with administrative duties including record computerisation and fee handling.
• Provide cover for the Local Land Charges Manager when required.
What You Will Bring
• Experience in Highways Registers, Local Land Charges or Street Naming and Numbering.
• Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to use electronic record systems and GIS applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
