Join a passionate, purpose-driven Homelessness Prevention Team where your work genuinely changes lives. We are recruiting for a rewarding role as a Homelessness Prevention Officer, focused on helping residents secure safe, sustainable housing.

In our team, collaboration, innovation and compassion are at the heart of everything we do. You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues, ongoing professional development, and a culture that values fresh ideas and proactive solutions to prevent homelessness before crisis point.

This role will provide expert housing advice and deliver a proactive homelessness prevention service in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017. You will manage your own caseload, develop and review Personalised Housing Plans, carry out detailed investigations, issue statutory decisions, and work closely with landlords, partners and support agencies to prevent and relieve homelessness.

The role involves negotiation, mediation, safeguarding responsibilities, maintaining accurate case records (Locata), and ensuring the Council meets its statutory duties under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.

We are looking for a motivated, resilient and empathetic professional who is committed to delivering excellent customer service in challenging situations. You should have experience working in homelessness, housing advice or social housing services, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and the ability to manage complex casework independently.

You will be confident conducting interviews, investigations and negotiations, issuing S184 decisions, and working collaboratively with internal and external partners. Strong communication skills, sound judgement, good IT skills and attention to detail are essential. Above all, we welcome individuals who are proactive, solutions-focused and passionate about preventing homelessness. If you meet this criteria and share our commitment to supporting vulnerable residents, we would love to hear from you.

The post is offered on a permanent basis (36 hours per week).

Benefits include:

  • 27 – 32 days annual leave (depending on length of Local Gvt Service) - plus all bank holidays
  • Local government pension scheme
  • Flexi-Leave - accrue extra hours & exchange for up to 2 days leave per month
  • Free gym membership
  • Cycle schemes (Cycle to Work Scheme and free Beryl Bike rides for staff)
  • Free wellbeing benefits (such as lunchtime yoga, flu jabs, health MOT)
  • Employee Assistance Programme

The Council operates a hybrid working system where employees may work up to three days per week from home, depending on the needs of the department.

Closing date: Monday 23rd March, 10am

Please note: this vacancy may close early depending on the volume of suitable applications received, so we encourage you to apply at your earliest opportunity.
