Housing Allocations Manager (Ref: HAM)
Salary £41,808.52 pa

This is your opportunity to join a busy and forward-thinking housing service, providing expert advice to customers to help prevent homelessness. The role is responsible for addressing housing needs in the Borough by managing all aspects of the Council’s social housing register. You will be working with partners including housing associations to achieve successful lettings.

As the Council does not hold its own housing stock, this role is key in working closely with housing association partners to make sure social rented homes are let in timely manner, in accordance with protocols, to those most in need. You will be responsible for overseeing the team that assesses and reviews applications, therefore you will need experience in applying housing law, policy and eligibility criteria to individual cases through careful assessment of circumstances and in a consistent and transparent way; attention to detail is key. The role is varied, dealing with a diverse client group, so the ability to converse at ease with members of the public is essential.

If you are interested in this role, you must be computer literate and have a minimum of five GCSE or equivalent passes at least grade C, which should include English and Maths. Experience of working in the public sector is preferred, in a housing role. Essentially, you will have worked in a busy and varied customer facing environment, dealing with vulnerable or disadvantaged people. You should be able to demonstrate your commitment to working collaboratively as part of the wider housing team helping local people and families and making a difference to their lives. Training on specific policies and safeguarding protocols will be provided. A full driving licence would be advantageous.

This role requires a disclosure and barring service check as it is working with children or vulnerable clients.

We have adopted the core values of Teamwork, Innovation, Effectiveness and Respect (TIER).
The values and their underlying behaviours, demonstrate our commitment to providing excellent customer care, working in a joined-up way, always showing respect and looking at innovation and forward-thinking solutions. We pride ourselves on recruiting, developing and retaining talent who share this commitment.

We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The Council’s benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
