Contract type: Apprentice

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join Luton Borough Council’s busy Tenancy Services and Temporary Accommodation Management team as a Housing & Property Management Apprentice.

This role offers an excellent introduction to housing services and provides a strong foundation for a career in local government. As an apprentice, you will gain hands-on experience across a wide range of housing management activities, developing key skills in tenancy and property management while working as part of a supportive and professional team.

You will support the delivery of high-quality, customer-focused housing services, responding to enquiries from residents, colleagues, and partner agencies through a variety of channels including telephone, email, written correspondence, and face-to-face contact. The role will also involve assisting the service in undertaking visits, inspections, tenancy audits, viewings, and tenancy sign-ups.

You will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date records using Council IT systems, ensuring information is entered correctly and handled with attention to detail. You will also provide appropriate advice and support to residents, internal services and external organisations as required.

We are looking for someone who is organised, flexible and co-operative, with the ability to plan and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. You should be a confident team player who is willing to use initiative, contribute ideas and help improve systems and processes. Telephone duties and additional tasks will be undertaken as required.

This apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience, develop professional skills and build a rewarding career in housing and property management within local government.

Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.

About you

You will be a motivated and reliable individual with the ability to work effectively both as part of a team and on your own initiative. You will have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate clearly, courteously, and tactfully with people at all levels, including residents, colleagues, and partner organisations.

You will understand equality and diversity issues and a willingness to work in line with the Council’s internal policies and key business policies relevant to the housing sector. You will be organised and able to plan, prioritise and manage your workload effectively to meet deadlines.

You will have good written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and accurate emails and reports, demonstrating a good standard of spelling and grammar. You will be confident in using a range of IT systems to support your work and maintain accurate records.

You will hold Functional Skills Level 2 or GCSEs at grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent) or be willing to work towards these as part of the apprenticeship. You must be able to commit to the relevant apprenticeship training, including Functional Skills if required.

To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you must have lived in the UK, Gibraltar, the EEA, Switzerland, or EU overseas territories for at least the previous three years.

Application Process

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.

On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
