Housing Home Visiting Officer
Location: Muriel Matters House, Hastings (hybrid working available)
Salary: £27,254 – £31,022 (Grade 8)
Contract: Indefinite, full-time (37 hours)
The Role:
As a Housing Home Visiting Officer, you’ll deliver a vital service that prevents homelessness before it happens. Working closely with residents, families, and partner organisations, you’ll carry out home visits, assess housing needs, mediate with relatives and landlords, and help people access safe and sustainable housing options.
This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. You’ll have the autonomy to make a real impact while being supported by a collaborative and experienced housing team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct home visits to households at risk of homelessness.
- Assess the suitability of current living arrangements and explore options to prevent homelessness.
- Work with families, friends, landlords, and agencies to resolve housing disputes and delay or prevent evictions.
- Support people to access housing options, including private renting and social housing.
- Maintain clear case records and liaise with internal teams to support homelessness assessments.
- Actively promote housing solutions and alternatives to temporary accommodation or bed and breakfast placements.
- Monitor cases and conduct follow-up visits to ensure positive outcomes are sustained.
About You:
Qualifications
- GCSE English (Grade 9–4 / A–C) or equivalent.
Experience
- Significant experience in a housing-related support role, or at least two years in an advisory role working directly with customers.
Knowledge
- Understanding of the causes of homelessness and ways to prevent it.
Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage a varied caseload, and remain calm under pressure.
- Confident using Microsoft Office and maintaining accurate case records.
Other Requirements
- Full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to travel across the borough for home visits.
