Castle Point Borough Council is seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Housing Options Officer to deliver a resident focussed, data led, performance driven service.

This role actively supports clients who are facing homelessness with their housing circumstances, to prevent homelessness in appropriate cases by providing a comprehensive housing options and advice. In addition to this, fulfilling the necessary statutory obligations in respect of homelessness and access to housing and work with partner organisations. To complete the necessary housing plans and risk assessments for clients presenting as homeless to ensure necessary health and safety and safeguarding arrangements for vulnerable adults and young children are in place.

The successful candidates will have proven significant experience of working within a homelessness and prevention environment, managing client workloads in a fully compliant and quality service.

They will require experience in writing complex homelessness reports and personal housing plans in respect of clients presenting as homeless and will need proven experience and knowledge in respect of the necessary investigatory processes relating to applications.

Key Skills and abilities

  • Good communication written and verbal skills to enable an empathetic relationship to be developed with clients facing significant housing and social challenges
  • Knowledge and skills to enable the effective use of IT systems associated with providing high quality homelessness services
  • Proven skills to understand and manage council budgets in accordance with financial regulations
  • Ability to understand detailed and often complex information and personal circumstances to enable a timely and effective homelessness and prevention service to be delivered.
  • Have detailed understanding and the necessary skills concerning potential prevention options, good housing advice options, partnership working initiatives.
  • Detailed knowledge and the necessary skills to interpret correctly the appropriate regulatory and statutory frameworks associated with Homelessness and prevention activities.
  • Detailed understanding of relevant housing statute in respect of Housing homelessness and prevention services
  • Knowledge of safeguarding requirements in respect of vulnerable adults and children.
  • Knowledge of the use and provision of TA for those clients presenting as homeless and subject to the necessary housing investigation process.
