Housing Support Worker

Do you have a passion for helping people with complex needs rebuild their lives?

We’re looking for a Housing Support Worker to join our small, dedicated team in Colchester, Essex, supporting adults who have experienced homelessness and may be facing challenges such as alcohol dependency, substance misuse, or mental ill health.

In this role, you’ll be a key part of someone’s journey to stability, helping them settle into safe accommodation, access the right services, and develop the skills and confidence to live more independently.

Make a Real Difference in People’s Lives

Are you compassionate, committed, and equipped with essential life skills? If so, this could be the role for you. Use your experience and empathy to support people facing homelessness, substance misuse, involvement with the criminal justice system, or mental ill health.

At our specialist homelessness service, we aim to help individuals break the cycle of homelessness by providing not just a roof over their heads, but the emotional and practical support needed for them to regain control of their lives. We believe in being kind, doing the right thing, and celebrating diversity—values that are at the heart of everything we do.

As a Housing Support Worker, your kind and caring nature will be crucial. You’ll work one-on-one with our residents each week, helping them set and achieve their personal goals. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to build strong, professional relationships with vulnerable adults, and your love of new ideas will mean you’re always ready to explore creative ways to enhance their support.

This role involves working as part of a dedicated team that pulls together to provide round-the-clock support, 7 days a week. This role will temporarily require sleep ins at the service each week (no more than two per week).

What We’re Looking For:

  • A deep understanding of the housing support needs of vulnerable adults, particularly those with mental health issues.
  • A flexible, outcome-focused, and compassionate approach to support, in line with our commitment to doing the right thing for every individual.
  • A strong sense of empathy and enthusiasm to work with a complex and diverse client group.
  • Excellent literacy, listening, and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and email) to document support plans and communication.
  • Effective IT skills and the ability to use technology effectively to manage support plans, communication, and reporting.
  • A passion for keeping promises, delivering support as agreed, and following through with commitment.

If you’re looking for a role where you can truly make a positive impact, this is it.

Join us in supporting our residents on their journey toward independent living and a brighter future.
