ICT Lead Technician
Are you an experienced ICT professional who thrives on solving complex technical challenges, leading others and driving innovation to deliver secure, reliable and modern digital services?
If you're passionate about technology, service excellence and continuous improvement, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
We're looking for a highly capable technical leader who can combine deep technical expertise with strong problem-solving skills, service ownership and a commitment to developing others. You'll play a key role in shaping how ICT services are delivered across the organisation, ensuring technology remains reliable, secure and aligned to business needs.
Working within an ITIL-aligned service management framework, you'll help drive service improvements, support effective demand management, lead technical investigations and contribute to the delivery of modern digital services that provide measurable value to colleagues and customers.
What’s the role all about?
As a Lead ICT Technician, you'll act as the senior technical lead within the ICT Support team, providing expert knowledge, guidance and escalation support for complex ICT issues, projects and service improvements.
You'll be responsible for maintaining, developing and supporting key infrastructure, systems, applications and endpoint technologies, ensuring services remain secure, reliable, available and fit for purpose.
The role combines technical leadership with operational responsibility, helping to shape technical standards, improve service delivery and drive continual service improvement across the organisation.
You will play a pivotal role in supporting ITIL-aligned practices, including Incident, Problem, Change and Continual Service Improvement processes, ensuring services are managed effectively and continually evolve to meet organisational needs.
What will your day look like?
You'll act as the primary technical escalation point for complex ICT incidents and high-impact service issues, using your expertise to identify solutions, minimise disruption and restore services as quickly as possible.
Beyond incident resolution, you'll lead technical investigations into recurring or complex issues, identifying root causes and implementing permanent solutions that improve service reliability and reduce future incidents.
A significant part of your role will involve taking ownership of technical services, projects and operational outcomes. You'll work closely with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders to understand business requirements, design effective solutions and successfully deliver technical change.
You'll help develop and maintain technical standards, procedures and best practices, ensuring consistency, resilience and high-quality service delivery across the ICT function.
You will actively identify opportunities for improvement through automation, standardisation and service optimisation, supporting the organisation's digital ambitions while improving user experience and operational efficiency.
As a senior member of the team, you'll provide coaching, mentoring and technical leadership to colleagues, promoting knowledge sharing, reducing single points of failure and helping build capability and resilience across the service.
During major incidents or critical service disruptions, you'll lead the technical response, coordinating troubleshooting activities, supporting business continuity arrangements and driving post-incident reviews to ensure lessons learned are translated into lasting improvements.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for an experienced ICT professional with extensive technical knowledge across ICT infrastructure, systems, applications and support services, together with a proven ability to lead the resolution of complex technical challenges.
You'll possess exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, allowing you to assess situations, identify root causes and implement effective, sustainable solutions in both planned and reactive environments.
You will be comfortable balancing operational support, project delivery and service improvement activities, taking ownership of outcomes and ensuring work is delivered to a high standard.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills are essential. You'll be able to engage effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, translating complex technical information into language that stakeholders can understand and use.
We are looking for someone who naturally supports and develops others, fostering a collaborative team culture focused on learning, continuous improvement and shared success.
You'll be proactive, adaptable and committed to staying current with emerging technologies, industry developments and best practice, using this knowledge to identify opportunities that improve services, strengthen resilience and deliver value to the organisation.
Experience of working within or supporting ITIL-based service management practices would be highly advantageous, together with experience of major incident management, problem management and service improvement initiatives.
