Independent Person for Derbyshire Pension Fund

Derbyshire Pension Fund is seeking to appoint an Independent Person to support and strengthen the governance of the Fund, which is administered in Matlock on the edge of the Peak District.

With assets of approximately £7.8 billion, over 400 participating employers and almost 100,000 members, the Fund plays a vital role in providing Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) benefits across Derbyshire.

As part of the Government's LGPS Fit for the Future reforms, the Independent Person will provide independent expertise, constructive challenge and assurance in support of the Fund's governance, investment, funding and administration activities.

Working closely with the Fund's LGPS Senior Officer, the Chair of the Pensions and Investments Committee and the Chair of Derbyshire Pension Board, the successful candidate will help to support informed decision-making, scrutinise complex advice, and contribute to the continued development of the Fund's governance arrangements.

We are seeking applicants with significant pensions experience, either within the LGPS or another large occupational pension scheme. The successful candidate will demonstrate independent judgement, the ability to analyse complex information, and experience of operating at board, committee, trustee or senior advisory level.

The appointment is for a three-year term commencing 1st December 2026. The anticipated commitment is approximately 16-18 days per year, including attendance at Committee meetings, training events and related activities.
