Cognus Limited is a Local Authority Traded Company, which is commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton to provide education services to early years providers, mainstream schools and specialist education settings in Sutton. Wholly owned by the local authority, we deliver a wide range of high quality services to deliver excellent practice that improve the lives of children, young people, and families in Sutton and beyond.
We are looking for an experienced Independent Travel Trainer to join our highly effective and committed Travel Training Team. This role will work in a holistic way to travel train young people with additional needs, alongside a variety of Cognus colleagues and professionals across the London Borough of Sutton, as well as children, young people and families.
We are looking for an individual who is experienced in supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), building effective relationships and supporting independence. You will need to have high levels of motivation, be patient, reliable, safety focused and have the ability to deliver effective and impactful Independent Travel Training (ITT) to children and young people aged 11-25, helping them travel safely on public transport, build confidence, and develop essential life skills.
You will:
Deliver 1:1 travel training using recognised ITT methods
Assess learners’ suitability and plan personalised training programmes
Carry out route planning and risk assessments
Work closely with families, schools and SEND teams
Record outcomes, support service coordination and promote the service locally
Full training, including ITT Level 2, will be provided if required.
You must be confident using public transport, able to work independently in the community, and committed to safeguarding and inclusion.
