Then join our Insurance (Fund & Policy) team and play a vital role in delivering professional insurance and claims services across a unique local government partnership, where no two days are ever the same.
As an Insurance Officer, you will help deliver insurance, claims and risk management services across a partnership of local authorities and maintained schools. Working with insurers, brokers, council services and external stakeholders, you will provide professional advice, manage a varied caseload of claims and insurance matters, and help ensure appropriate protection for public assets and services. This role offers the opportunity to develop specialist expertise, build influential relationships and make a tangible difference by supporting organisations that serve local communities every day.
We are looking for candidates who
- Have experience of working in an insurance-related environment, including claims handling and insurance policy management.
- Can communicate complex information clearly and confidently, building effective relationships with customers, colleagues and external stakeholders.
- Have strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data, identify trends and present information in a clear and accessible way.
- Are organised and self-motivated, able to manage a varied workload, prioritise competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
- Demonstrate a collaborative and customer-focused approach, working positively as part of a team while showing initiative, adaptability and a commitment to delivering excellent service.

The role provides the chance to make a real difference to public services by ensuring that council assets, services, and communities are appropriately protected through effective insurance and risk management. Unlike many insurance roles that are focused solely on claims or policy administration, this position offers exposure to the full insurance lifecycle. The postholder will work on claims handling, policy management, stakeholder engagement, data reporting, and insurance advice.
The role will offer hybrid working, with some time in the office at County Hall, the Head Office for the County Council. It is based on the edge of Lewes Town Centre, which is within walking distance to the town and train station. County Hall is also on a bus route and car parking is available on site at a reduced rate for employees. On occasions, you may be required to attend Brighton & Hove City Councils offices in Hove or, Surrey County Councils in Reigate.

Salary range
- £34,146 - £36,446 per year
