About the role
We are looking for an experienced landscaping and grounds maintenance professional with strong leadership skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality public services. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in keeping our borough safe, clean, and well maintained.
In this lead role, you will be hands-on supporting and guiding a small team delivering a wide range of hard and soft landscaping and maintenance work across our borough. You’ll help plan and organise daily work, ensure health and safety standards are followed, provide excellent customer service, and lead by example on site.
You will be responsible for a range of hard and soft landscaping tasks such as:
- repairs and installation of fencing, street furniture including litter bins, signs and benches
- repairs of paths, hard areas and simple pothole repairs using tarmac for example cold roll
- minor repairs which are non-structural to: brick work, including perimeter walls; timber, including planters; and occasionally replacing bus shelter Perspex or glass
- measuring up and assessing ordering materials for works issued
- assist the Waterways team when needed with cutting back, clearing and maintaining waterways and watercourses, including grounds maintenance, strimming, mowing, shrubs and grasses
- assist with maintenance and inspection of signage and bridges
You will have:
- proven experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance
- strong practical skills in both hard and soft landscaping
- experience of leading or supervising a team
- good understanding of health and safety practices
- ability to plan, organise, and prioritise work
- excellent customer service and communication skills
- a proactive, hands-on approach with a commitment to high standards
Additional information
The working hours of the role are 52 weeks at 37 hours. Normal working days are Monday to Thursday 7am to 3pm and Friday 7am to 2.30pm. Some work may be required on weekends and Bank Holidays, for which a 14% enhancement will be paid.
Postholder required to maintain a current full UK driving licence (category B).
You will be required to wear uniform, which will be provided for you.
