    Working with the Service Owner, the Lead Product Manager will make sure that the service provides the best possible experience for our customers and users prioritising the work against a product backlog and roadmap on a value basis.

    This role sits at the heart of IPO’s transformation programme, supporting the delivery of our live Patents service as part of Phase 1, while driving forward the redesign of Trade Marks and Designs services in Phase 2. The successful candidate will operate across both delivery landscapes—ensuring continuity and improvement in live services, while shaping future-state design for services yet to be transformed.

    Working Style

    This role will be carried out in-line with IPO Hybrid working arrangements where staff are currently expected to spend at least 20% of their time working onsite from one of our offices. This role is based in our Newport office.

    The requirement for attendance at an office location can vary by role so we would encourage candidates to discuss working arrangements with the recruiting manager to agree a reasonable balance between working from home and the office.

    Main duties consist of but are not limited to:

    • Collaborate with Service Owners to develop a product vision and strategy, and be accountable for service innovation.
    • Collaborate with peers to build and mature the IPO product profession and community of practice.
    • Providing leadership and direction to the product teams.
    • Owning products end to end, front to back.
    • Creation, iteration and on-going maintenance of product roadmaps that supports IPO’s transformation vision.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve key decisions/escalations.
    • Engage with Subject Matter Experts, stakeholders and users to inform prioritisation decisions.
    • Share compelling product roadmap with business change and communication teams, articulate benefits for internal and external users.
    • Supporting teams to define clear, detailed and actionable product requirements.
    • Overall delivery of product and programme milestones
    • Creation and management of metrics to measure the success of our products, using these metrics to drive business outcomes.
    • Supporting the creation of business cases and spend control submission and subsequently ensuring work undertaken is in line with approved spend control authority.
    • Ensuring that products are delivered on time and meet quality requirements. Support project and delivery professions to improve team velocity and estimation.
    • Performing market research – keeping up to date with developments within IP and the tools and technology available to offer an improved product.
    • Performing a range of programme management activities in support of the Service Owner, e.g. preparation of GDS spend controls and reports for Project and Programme Boards

    Essential criteria

    • Experience of transformational digital service and product management.
    • Leading multiple cross-functional agile delivery teams
    • Managing relationships with suppliers & senior internal and external stakeholders
    • Track record of delivering against a consolidated priority backlog within a complex programme environment.
    • Designed, built, tested and released new digital services /products including formal governance gateway reviews.

    Additional details on security and vetting

    Successful candidates must pass a disclosure and barring security check and if successful you must also hold, or be willing to obtain, a higher Security Clearance.

    For meaningful checks to be carried out individuals will need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time, depending on the level of clearance, to enable appropriate checks to be carried out and produce a result which provides the required level of assurance. For this role the successful individual will need to have consistently lived in the UK for a minimum 5 years in order to meet the relevant security clearance.
