We are seeking a dedicated and caring Learning Support Assistant to work alongside teachers in supporting learners across all aspects of teaching and learning. You will play a key role in enhancing the quality of the learning experience and helping students reach their full potential within a positive and inclusive environment.

The role involves working with learners who have individual needs, providing tailored support on a one-to-one basis, within the classroom, or in small groups. Learning Support Assistants may bring particular strengths or specialisms, such as literacy, numeracy, or supporting students with special educational needs (SEN).

Bilingual candidates are especially encouraged to apply, as you may support learners whose first language is not English, helping them to fully access learning and thrive in their education.

Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.

About you

We are looking for a professional and approachable individual who can communicate politely and tactfully with a wide range of people. You will work collaboratively as part of a team, building positive and effective relationships with both staff and learners to create a supportive learning environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate empathy and understanding when supporting adults who may face barriers to learning. You will be confident in providing constructive feedback, both written and verbal, and able to support learners in using online tools to access learning resources effectively.

This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English.

Strong organisational and time-management skills are essential, along with an understanding of the impact of discrimination on service delivery and on the individuals you support. You will hold English and Maths at Level 2 or equivalent, show a willingness to undertake further training, and be flexible in meeting service demands. The role also requires the ability to travel across the borough.

Application Process

Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.

On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.

We offer a range of excellent staff benefits which include:
