About the Role
Parkside Middle School is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our warm, inclusive community. With inclusivity at the heart of our provision, we are proud to nurture individuality, celebrate strengths and ensure every pupil feels valued, supported and ready to learn.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Learning Support Assistant to support pupils in school. The successful candidate will provide learning, care and support for pupils with special educational needs to help work towards the outcomes on their Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP). This will involve working with the teacher to plan and deliver activities and supporting the pupil with routines, transitions and behaviour management.
It would be beneficial if the candidate has previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant. The candidate should be able to build positive relationships with pupils, promote high self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion. They will demonstrate and encourage high standards of behaviour and support pupils with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils’ learning — provide targeted support, promote inclusion, and help pupils engage confidently in learning.
- Assist teaching and learning — deliver activities and interventions, monitor progress, and help maintain an effective classroom environment.
- Support the wider school — uphold school policies, work collaboratively, and contribute to whole‑school initiatives and development.
- Promote safeguarding — follow safeguarding procedures and work with the DSL to ensure pupil safety and wellbeing.
- Liaise with staff and families — communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and external professionals to support pupil progress.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Energy, enthusiasm, creativity and talent.
- Excellent numeracy and literacy skills.
- A desire to make a positive difference to the lives of the pupils, forming strong mutually respectful relationships.
- Commitment to working as part of a team and in partnership with parents.
- Previous experience as a Learning Support Assistant or working with children.
- Experience delivering a range of interventions that support children’s specific needs.
- A desire to develop their expertise through further training and CPD.
