Starting Salary: £25,185 progressing to £25,583 per annum (pro rata for part time)
Hours: 37
Location: Welwyn Garden City
Contract Type: Permanent
Directorate: Resources
About the team
This is a rare opportunity to join our team of five Library Support Drivers, managed by our Facilities Support Officer. You will be driving a 3.5 tonne van and be responsible for delivering, collecting and sorting items from libraries as well as educational and health settings.
You will be part of our close-knit Libraries Logistics and Distribution team, which supports 46 libraries throughout Hertfordshire. We are currently based with our Central Stocks Unit at Welwyn Garden City and will be moving to St Albans within the next 12 months.
About the role
Working days are Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day with some flexibility around start times. Our drivers like to get out early to avoid the traffic and usually complete deliveries before our libraries open to the public.
Library Support Drivers are responsible for sorting, loading, unloading and delivering stock, equipment and items of furniture to libraries, often out of hours when the libraries are closed. This requires the confidence to work alone while unlocking, locking and setting intruder alarms.
About you
We are seeking a reliable, proactive individual who interacts professionally with colleagues and members of the public and is keen to deliver high standards of service with care, consideration and courtesy.
This role requires a good level of physical fitness and resilience. You will be lifting, carrying, loading and unloading boxes of library stock, furniture and equipment. You will be making deliveries in all weathers, often in the dark and before libraries open.
You must be a patient, considerate and competent driver, operating the vehicle safely, legally and economically at all times. A DVLA licence check will be carried out prior to appointment and every 6 months thereafter.
We welcome applications from candidates who currently reside in the UK with established proof of right to work documentation. We are not able to offer sponsorship at this time for this role.
