About the Service

We are seeking an engaging and committed individual to join us as Local Area Co-ordinator within Adult Social Care Services. This role is a varied, interesting and exciting opportunity to support people, plan, organise and access a range of practical and personalised supports and services which enhance their participation in, and contribution to, their local community.

We are transforming the way we connect people and places - helping people to create their own practical solutions within communities that are inclusive and supportive.

About the Role

The Local Area Co-ordinator will work with people and their families in Thurrock using this approach. The Local Area Coordinator will support people, plan, organise and access a range of practical and personalised supports and services which enhance their participation in, and contribution to, their local community.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for an exceptional individual who can combine a passion for their local community, with a commitment to working alongside people in very practical ways – always looking for local solutions through the networks and resources that they know within the community.

So, if you subscribe to Professor Edgar Cahn, the US civil rights lawyer and inventor of time banks views, then the Co-ordinator role could be for you: The only way the world is going to address social problems is by enlisting the very people who are classified as ‘clients’ and ‘consumers’ and converting them into co-workers, partners and rebuilders of the core economy.

Thurrock believe in in the strength and contribution of all local people (including those who are labelled as clients or social care recipients) to build and pursue a positive vision for Thurrock.

Working alongside people, their families and their communities, the ideal candidate will:

  • Be committed to enhancing the lives of all people.
  • Have excellent communication and negotiation skills to build and nurture relationships at a personal, community and service level.
  • Be committed to building inclusive communities and promoting equity and fairness of opportunity.
  • Have knowledge of issues facing people with disabilities, mental health needs, dementia, sensory impairments, older people, their families and communities.
  • Can analyse issues and reach creative solutions with people.

DBS Check: A Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) at Enhanced level with Adults Barred List will be required for this role.

Benefits of Working with Us

At Thurrock Council, we value our employees and offer a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Flexible and hybrid working opportunities (where applicable)
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • Employee assistance programme and wellbeing support

  • A supportive and inclusive working environment
