Job description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the DESNZ Communications team and support our Clean Energy Mission marketing campaigns. The Clean Energy Mission campaigns are part of the government’s plan to make the UK a clean energy superpower by 2025 and move towards net zero by 2050.
In this role, you will help the team with the day-to-day coordination and delivery of campaign activities, both within the Communications Directorate and with external partners. You will also assist with managing relationships with agencies and other stakeholders to help deliver clear and effective communications. This is a great role for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in government communications and marketing.
Person specification
- Support the delivery of paid media activity for the Clean Energy Mission, working with media and creative agencies to coordinate campaign activity. This includes maintaining content calendars and trackers, contributing to copy development, attending cross-agency meetings, and supporting the review and approval of campaign assets with relevant stakeholders.
- Assist with managing no and low-cost partnerships, helping to coordinate joint activities with external organisations to extend the reach of the paid campaigns and to promote energy-saving initiatives.
- Work alongside policy and digital teams to support the promotion of home energy efficiency activities from initial ideas through to publication / launch.
- Support the development and launch of a new website, working with digital teams and external suppliers to help coordinate content migration and setup, and assist with implementing tracking and analytics tools such as Google Tag Manager to support campaign performance monitoring.
- Assist with the on-going developing content development and maintenance of the Clean Energy Mission website, keeping content up-to-date across multiple pages, incorporating policy updates, stakeholder feedback, and campaign changes, with opportunities to build skills in website management.
- Support campaign finances by maintaining trackers, folders, invoices, and purchase order processing, helping ensure smooth communication with the DESNZ finance team, policy colleagues, and other stakeholders.
- Help with the day-to-day running of campaigns, including coordinating approvals for messaging and content, preparing toolkits for external teams, liaising with stakeholder groups (e.g., Which?, Smart Energy GB), and pulling data for submissions, FOIs, Q&As, and media queries.
- Support the development of campaign assets, working with policy and Cabinet Office colleagues to ensure messaging is clear, accurate, and easy for audiences to understand and act on.
- Assist in gathering and sharing insight and evaluation information, working with DESNZ and other government colleagues on audience understanding, creative testing, and approvals processes.
- Support the management and development of CRM activity, helping to organise contact data, maintain mailing lists, and assist with email communications or stakeholder outreach. Experience or interest in using CRM platforms to support campaign delivery and audience engagement would be beneficial.
Essential Criteria
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly share ideas and updates and work confidently with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Some experience of paid marketing, with an interest in helping deliver insight- and data-informed campaigns across digital, social, broadcast, and partnership channels.
- Comfortable supporting multiple agencies or partners at the same time, helping to coordinate work, track progress, and ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
- A collaborative and inclusive team player, who contributes positively to the working environment and supports colleagues in delivering high-quality outcomes.
- Able to build and maintain productive working relationships with internal teams, delivery partners, and suppliers, supporting smooth collaboration across campaigns.
- Organised and reliable, with the ability to assist with planning and managing multiple campaign activities, tracking timelines, and helping to keep projects on schedule.
- Interested in monitoring campaign performance and evaluation, helping to collect and interpret data, and supporting the team in demonstrating the impact and value of campaigns.
Desirable Criteria
- Experience supporting website content updates or launches, including working with digital teams to publish and maintain online content.
- Experience using CRM platforms (for example Salesforce, HubSpot or similar) to manage contact data, support stakeholder engagement, or assist with email communications.
- Familiarity with digital analytics or tracking tools such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, or similar platforms.
- Experience monitoring social media performance or audience sentiment and identifying insights to inform campaign activity.
- An interest in sustainability, clean energy, or climate-related communications.
