    About the role

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with specialist Moving and Handling skills to join the Specialist Moving and Handling Team at West Northamptonshire Council.

    This is a community-based role in which you will work directly with people who have physical disabilities, supporting them to live safely and as independently as possible.

    You will visit clients in the community to assess their moving and handling needs, working collaboratively with Occupational Therapists, Reablement Support Workers, carers, and service providers to achieve the best possible outcomes for each individual.

    A confident, approachable, and people-focused professional is required who enjoys working directly with individuals, carers, and other professionals. The successful candidate will build positive relationships with ease, communicate clearly and sensitively, and be comfortable working with people who have physical disabilities and complex needs.

    The role requires confidence in completing moving and handling assessments and developing safe, person-centred plans, alongside an enthusiasm for training and development. Experience in delivering training, coaching carers and providers, and promoting best practice in a clear and supportive manner will be essential. Strong organisational skills are needed to manage a caseload effectively, while balancing independent working with collaboration as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.

    The successful candidate will bring:

    • A ROSPA Level 3 Moving and Handling Train the Trainer qualification, or equivalent.
    • A Levels or an equivalent qualification.
    • Experience of working within health and social care, including undertaking moving and handling assessments and developing safe moving and handling plans.
    • A good understanding of safeguarding, relevant legislation, and equal opportunities.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with individuals, carers, providers, and professionals.

    A full driving licence and access to a vehicle with business-use insurance are essential for this role.

    This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is therefore subject to an Enhanced DBS check. As the post involves regulated activity, it will also be subject to Children’s and Adults’ Barred List checks.
