
Multi Trade Operative
Repairs & Maintenance Operative – Help Keep Our Communities Safe, Functional and Well‑Maintained
Are you a skilled multi‑trade professional who takes pride in delivering high‑quality repairs and great customer service? As a Repairs & Maintenance Operative at Peabody, you’ll provide a responsive and proactive repairs service across our communal and public areas, ensuring our homes, buildings and shared spaces remain safe, functional and well‑maintained.
You’ll work closely with colleagues, tenants and partner teams to deliver “right first time” repairs, identify planned maintenance needs, and help us continuously improve the homes and environments our residents rely on every day.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver high‑quality general repairs across Peabody stock, ensuring a “right first time” approach
- Carry out multi‑trade repairs including tiling, painting, plaster patching, carpentry, glazing, minor plumbing, metalwork, fencing, paving and general maintenance
- Proactively identify both reactive and planned repairs and support colleagues in developing planned works programmes
- Maintain and care for tools, plant and company vehicles
- Support quality assurance checks with Peabody officers and tenant inspectors
- Assist with insurance claim reports when required
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Customer Care policies
- Complete safety roles such as Fire Warden or First Aider when required
- Maintain accurate electronic records using handheld devices
- Assess materials required for each job, ensuring minimal waste and best value
- Report defects or additional works required and arrange follow‑on jobs as appropriate
- Support apprentices by providing on-the-job guidance
- Work collaboratively with Caretaking, Neighbourhood, Warden and Asset Management Teams
- Take ownership of positive complaint resolution and represent Peabody professionally
What You’ll Need
- A full clean manual UK driving licence
- Strong multi‑trade skills gained through formal qualifications and/or extensive practical experience
- Experience delivering high‑quality repairs in a customer‑focused environment
- Ability to plan, schedule and prioritise work efficiently
- Competent IT skills and confidence using handheld devices
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, site safety and COSHH
- Awareness of personal safety and lone working procedures
- Experience working in a Direct Labour Organisation (DLO) setting – desirable
