Music Centre Guitar Tutor
About the job
Salary: Teachers Pay UQ6 salary
Hours per week: 3
Contract type: Permanent
We’re looking for a passionate and experienced guitar teacher who can bring energy, creativity and structure to group-based music learning. In this role, you’ll focus on teaching both electric and acoustic guitar, with a particular emphasis on rock and pop repertoire. You’ll lead small and large group sessions, including acoustic guitar ensembles and band settings, helping students develop their skills as both individual players and ensemble members.
Your work will go beyond technique and repertoire — you’ll be conducting, directing, and mentoring, creating meaningful learning experiences that encourage young musicians to engage, collaborate, and perform.
Please note this role does not attract sponsorship.
About you
You’re a confident and capable guitarist, comfortable across a range of styles, with a particular strength in rock and pop. You’ve taught in both individual and group settings and know how to keep sessions structured, inclusive and engaging. You’re a strong communicator, able to connect with pupils, parents and colleagues, and you bring a flexible, organised approach to your work.
Beyond the guitar, you may also have the ability to support students on other instruments such as drums, bass, or keys. You’re aware of equality and safeguarding issues and understand how to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students.
This is a public facing role so you’ll need to show off your fluency in speaking and writing English

Application Process
Because of the nature of this job, it will be necessary for the appropriate level of criminal record disclosure to be undertaken. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to declare all unspent cautions and convictions; and also any adult cautions (simple or conditional), and spent convictions that are not protected as defined by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2020). A person’s criminal record will not in itself prevent a person from being appointed to this post. Applicants will not be refused posts because of offences which are not relevant to, and do not place them at or make them a risk in, the role for which they are applying. However in the event of the employment being taken up, any failure to disclose such offence, as detailed above, will result in dismissal or disciplinary action by the Authority.
On occasions, we may close a vacancy early due to a very high number of applications being received.
