With its unique nuclear refitting facility, Devonport ensures the Fleet remains ready to support operations worldwide.

Job description

Are you an experienced and motivated Diving professional with a passion for training, safety and adventurous development? Do you thrive in a practical, operational environment and want to play a key role in developing Service personnel through high‑quality diving instruction?

If so, this role offers a unique opportunity to work at the heart of Joint Service Adventurous Training, delivering specialist Sub Aqua diving instruction that directly supports capability, safety and professional development across the Armed Forces.

You'll be responsible for the safe and effective delivery of diver, supervisor and instructor training, primarily through the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) syllabus. Working under the direction of the Officer in Charge, you will also contribute to the management of the Centre’s health and safety systems and provide specialist support to JSAT diving activity across Defence.

Please note: Due to the nature of this role, there is a requirement to be onsite full-time.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

What you'll be doing
• Deliver Sub Aqua diver and instructor training using the British Sub Aqua Club (BSAC) syllabus to Armed Forces personnel
• Deliver and assess the Sub Aqua Diving Supervisor training programme, qualifying in this area if not already trained.
• Develop and maintain online learning materials that support diving supervisor training.
• Contribute to the Centre’s health, safety and environmental management, helping ensure all diving activity is conducted safely.
• Provide support to the Officer in Charge and assist with military diving expeditions when required.
• Maintain your professional standards through ongoing training and continual professional development.

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
• Hold a valid Health and Safety Executive Commercial Diver ‘Certificate of Fitness to Dive’ medical status
• The ability to manage your own workload and work confidently on your own initiative.
• Good IT skills, with experience using Microsoft 365 applications.

Qualifications

  • BSAC Open Water Instructor. (Advanced Instructor, Instructor Trainer preferred).
  • BSAC Diver Coxswain. (BSAC Small Boat Handling Instructor preferred)

Licences

Full driving licence - Category B
and

When a candidate has a banked score they’re not asked to re-take the same test providing it is set at the same level. Scores will be banked for a 6 month period from the date of test completion. CSJT scores cannot be banked as each test is generated from the behaviours required for a specific role which will vary between recruitment campaigns.
