Responsible for ensuring the Fleet has capable, motivated, and well-deployed personnel, this directorate oversees recruitment, training, and career development. You will be based at HMNB Clyde, home to the UK Submarine Service. It sustains the nation’s continuous at-sea deterrent and supports the Royal Navy’s fleet of nuclear-powered submarines. As a centre of excellence for submarine operations, Clyde plays a critical role in national security and global stability.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Do you enjoy working with technology and supporting teams to deliver consistent, high‑quality results? If so, we have an excellent opportunity for you to join our Submarine Training Support team, where your work will directly contribute to the safety, readiness, and operational success of Royal Navy submarine crews.
You will be part of a team responsible for running advanced simulation systems that prepare submarine Command Teams for real world operations. Your contribution will help ensure that crews are fully trained, assessed, and ready for deployment, an essential part of the UK’s continuous at sea deterrent.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of maritime defence training, supporting national security and shaping the next generation of submarine professionals. You will receive full training and ongoing support on all simulation systems, giving you the skills and confidence to operate advanced Royal Navy training technology, even if you have no prior experience.
This role is essential to live training delivery, so flexibility during training periods is limited. When training is not running and your presence is not required on site, hybrid working may be available by local agreement.
What you will be doing
- Operate control room simulation equipment across various submarine and ship training systems.
- Prepare and load training scenarios so they are ready before each session begins.
- Participate in exercises by role playing other positions within the scenario when required.
- Conduct routine checks before each training session to ensure all systems are ready.
- Report any defects immediately to training staff and maintenance teams, both verbally and through internal systems.
- Assist in updating training scenarios based on experience or direction from instructors.
- Assist in maintaining accurate usage records for all training systems.

You will have access to a variety of qualifications pathways ranging from GCSE/A-Level equivalent all the way up to master’s degree, depending on your role, your previous skills, and your experience. Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and working from home as part of a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement. All office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to site capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD workplace, will also count towards this level of office attendance.
