Help Lead Our Neighbourhood Highway Team

We are recruiting an experienced and collaborative Neighbourhood Highway Engineer to help keep Devon’s highway network safe, resilient and moving.

This is a varied role where your technical judgement, local knowledge and a commitment to excellent public service will make a visible difference.

We are looking for an Incorporated Engineer with a background inhighway maintenance, with confident professional judgement, sound technical knowledge and the ability to lead, mentor and manage others.

What You'll Be Doing

You will act as a trusted local technical lead, supporting highway maintenance, traffic management, local highways projects, winter service and emergency response.

Working with Elected Members, councils, communities and partners, you will turn local priorities into practical highway solutions.

You will support team performance, deputise when needed and help drive improvement across Devon.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the Northern Devon Neighbourhood Highway Team.
• Provide clear technical advice on highways and traffic management.
• Deliver local maintenance programmes and highway projects.
• Build strong relationships with Members, councils and communities.
• Coordinate local responses to winter and emergency events.
• Manage workloads, resources and performance.
• Take responsibility for the financial management and reporting of locally managed maintenance programmes
• Share best practice across Devon's highway groups.

About You

You'll bring:

• An Incorporated Engineer status.
• Experience in highway maintenance, traffic management or engineering.
• Confident professional judgement and sound technical knowledge.
• The ability to lead, mentor or manage others.
• A positive, customer-focused approach to community engagement.
• The ability to manage priorities and make informed decisions.
• Clear communication with technical and non-technical audiences.
• A commitment to excellent public service.
