Offshore Health and Safety Policy Adviser

Starting Salary: ££ - dependent on skills and experience.

Salary package also includes:

  • Eligibility for a 25% taxable gratuity

The post is for a fixed term of up to 4 years in the first instance with the possibility of extension. Secondment and Interchange opportunities will be considered.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Falkland Islands Government is pleased to announce a number of new opportunities following the expansion of its Minerals Resources Department.

THE ROLE

You will provide support, guidance and expert advice, including regulatory advice, to the Director, and the Senior Project Manager with regards to all aspects of Health and Safety requirements. The post will also involve completing the development of offshore safety policy proposals, working closely with colleagues to deliver appropriate drafting instructions, ready for the legal team. The role will also include activities such as conducting primary and secondary research as required, identifying best practices in other jurisdictions and analysing policy alternatives to recommend fit-for-Falklands solutions that are aligned with developing best practice in the oil and gas industry worldwide.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE:

  • Able to demonstrate a solid track record of relevant public sector policy experience, ideally in off-shore Health and Safety.
  • An extremely proficient communicator both verbally and in writing, with the ability to express ideas and impart key messages clearly, concisely and effectively.
  • Comfortable working within a dedicated team with a high degree of autonomy and have the tact, sensitivity and judgement to manage sensitive confidential information.
  • Organised, articulate and persuasive and have strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to establish excellent working relationships with colleagues, senior government leaders, elected officials, industry representatives and external partners.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and proactive, as well being as a strategic thinker, skilled problem solver and a supportive team player.
  • Flexible, adaptable and responsive.
  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area such as public policy, law or health & safety and possess a Masters/post-graduate diploma (or equivalent) in a discipline containing significant content relevant to the offshore hydrocarbons industry.
