The Quinta Primary School, Congleton, is looking for a practical, positive and well-organised person to help lead our OPAL, lunchtime play, after-school and holiday club provision.

This is a key role in the life of our school. We are looking for someone who can help create a safe, happy, well-run and exciting experience for children beyond the classroom.

The successful candidate will lead staff, organise routines, support behaviour, manage resources, communicate with families and help us continue to develop high-quality play and wraparound care.

You do not need to be a qualified HLTA to apply. We are interested in hearing from people with relevant experience in schools, childcare, playwork, wraparound care, nurseries, holiday clubs, sports coaching, youth work or outdoor learning.

OPAL experience would be welcome, but it is not essential. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Flexible role options

We recognise that this is a broad role, and we are open to discussing different ways of structuring the post for the right candidate or candidates.

Applications are welcomed for:

Option 1: Full OPAL and Wraparound Club Manager role

Working across lunchtime play, OPAL development, after-school provision and agreed holiday club provision.

Option 2: OPAL / Lunchtime Play Lead

Approximately 11:00am–1:30pm or 11:00am–2:00pm, Monday to Friday, term time.

This role would focus on leading OPAL, developing high-quality lunchtime play, supporting staff and pupils, managing resources and helping embed a positive play culture across the school.

Option 3: Wraparound Club Manager

Approximately 2:30pm–6:00pm, Monday to Friday, term time.

This role would focus on leading after-school provision, organising staffing, planning activities, supporting safeguarding and behaviour, communicating with families and ensuring children have a safe, happy and engaging end to the school day.

Optional holiday club hours

Holiday club hours may be offered separately or built into the Wraparound Club Manager contract, depending on candidate availability and the needs of the school.

We are also happy to consider a job-share arrangement or a combination of the above options.

Please state clearly in your application which option you are interested in.

The full role may include:

  • leading and developing OPAL and high-quality outdoor play across school
  • leading after-school wraparound provision
  • supporting the organisation and delivery of holiday club provision
  • planning engaging, inclusive and age-appropriate activities
  • organising staffing rotas
  • supporting high standards of safeguarding, behaviour and wellbeing
  • communicating with staff, families and children
  • managing resources, environments and food ordering

  • is calm, caring and positive
  • has strong safeguarding awareness
  • can support children’s behaviour confidently and fairly
  • is organised, reliable and punctual
  • can lead and organise adults
  • communicates well with parents, carers and staff
  • is practical, proactive and able to use initiative
  • is willing to complete relevant training
  • has a good sense of humour and a team-focused approach

It would be helpful if you have:

  • experience of working with primary-aged children
  • experience in wraparound care, holiday clubs, playwork, childcare, schools, sports clubs, nurseries or youth provision
  • experience supervising staff or organising rotas
  • a Level 3 or above qualification in childcare, playwork, education or a related area
  • paediatric first aid
  • food hygiene training
  • OPAL, forest school or outdoor play experience
  • HLTA status or a willingness to work towards further qualifications

What we can offer:

  • a friendly and supportive school community
  • enthusiastic children who enjoy active, creative play
  • a team of dedicated adults with a great sense of humour
  • continuing professional development through a dedicated CPD lead
  • OPAL training and support
  • excellent facilities
  • a protected budget for further development
  • the opportunity to shape and grow an important part of school life
