    Our Team

The Suspension Team is a newly expanded and vital service within Portsmouth City Council, supporting residents and businesses across the city. We are a friendly, supportive, and welcoming team committed to delivering an excellent customer experience by putting people at the heart of everything we do. As a forward‑thinking service, we take pride in helping our staff grow, offering opportunities to develop skills and knowledge as we continue to shape and strengthen the team.

    Your New Role

As a Suspension Officer, you will work within the Suspension Team and report to the Suspension Supervisor. You will be responsible for issuing and processing suspension requests, organising quotations, and responding to customer enquiries across a range of channels—including face‑to‑face, email and telephone.

This is a varied role, split between office-based administrative work and on‑street activity. Each day you will spend several hours driving a PCC service vehicle to install and remove suspension signage around the city. A full UK manual driving licence is essential.

Hear from one of the team:

“I really enjoy the variety in this busy role. It’s incredibly rewarding to be out and about in the city, meeting residents and business owners, and helping them with their suspension needs. You’ll need an administrative background, but all the technical parts of the job can be learned within the team.”

Please see the job profile below for the full details of the role.

    What You’ll Need to Succeed

You’ll have experience in administration and customer service, with a strong customer‑focused approach to your work. You’ll be confident using Microsoft applications, have excellent attention to detail, and be able to communicate clearly—both in writing and verbally.

We’re looking for someone who can solve problems effectively, manage their workload independently, and work accurately under pressure to meet tight deadlines. If you can build positive working relationships, support colleagues and residents, and you hold a full UK manual driving licence, we would love to hear from you.
