An exciting opportunity... Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.
Brent Start Adult and Community Learning is the largest local authority provider of adult learning within the West London Alliance area. The learner cohort is diverse and is drawn from an area which has higher levels of deprivation and unemployment compared to the London and West London averages. Learner achievement rates are higher than average compared to similar providers and learner satisfaction rates are also high. The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us.
    The Post

    Are you a team player?

Are you willing to roll up your sleeves for the benefit of learners? Do you go the extra mile when needed? Have you got a good track record for the attendance and achievement of your learners?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to those questions, you are the kind of person we are looking for to enter our sessional/bank staff pool.

We are looking to strengthen the Early Years and Health and Social Care teaching team at Brent Start Adult and Community Learning Centre, and we want creative, flexible and committed staff to make this possible. This role requires teamwork and a willingness to do what it takes to support Brent Start and the curriculum area.

    The Person

You are a dedicated member of staff who consistently puts learners first. With attendance at team meetings, training events and standardisation/audit meetings, you are a person that can be relied upon to produce quality. In addition, you have knowledge and experience of RaRPA and using accreditation with external examination boards.

We are seeking an experienced professional with an Early Years Practitioner qualification at Level 4 or above, ideally complemented by a Level 5 teaching qualification. If you do not currently hold a Level 5 teaching qualification, we are open to discussing your commitment to achieving this within an agreed timeframe at your own cost. In addition, you should possess both Assessor and Internal Quality Assurer (IQA) qualifications. Experience with Makaton would be an advantage. A GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in Maths is desirable. The role requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed, and a current DBS check would be highly welcomed.

    Why join us?

We know people achieve their best when they feel valued. At Brent, you’ll benefit from:

    • Up to 33 days annual leave (depending on length of service) plus bank holidays
    • Excellent pension with generous employer contributions (LGPS)
    • Hybrid and flexible working options available for most roles
    • Supportive family-friendly policies for parent, guardians, and carers
