Applications are invited for the permanent post of

Pastoral Assistant

Required to start 1st September 2025

Annual Salary: £19,086

32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

Monday to Friday 8.30am – 3.30pm

Overall Purpose of Post

To be the key point of contact for pupils, staff and parents/carers in relation to pupil behaviour and barriers to learning, for all year groups.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support pupils in their learning and encourage positive attitudes and behaviour in and around school by being available throughout the day for pupils
  • Work effectively with pupils and staff to promote engagement and positive M4L
  • Develop strategies to de-escalate problems, conflict and challenging behaviour
  • Monitor identified areas across the Academy daily
  • Support pupil behaviour strategies in the Academy, including detention support and working directly with pupils and their teachers
  • Liaise with Deputy Pastoral Leaders/Pastoral Leaders as appropriate to support a positive experience for pupils
  • Liaise with individual teachers, departments and faculties in relation to behaviour and learning of individual pupils and/or groups of pupils
  • Carry out duties relevant to support for pupils entitled to pupil premium and other vulnerable pupils
  • Hold break and lunchtime detentions/clubs
  • To support events and form positive relationships with parents/carers through open channels of communication
  • To support marketing activities/initiatives relating to assigned year groups
  • Act as a first aider in school, with appropriate training

Notwithstanding the detail in this job description, the job holder will undertake such work as may be determined by the Headteacher/Governing Body from time to time, up to or at a level consistent with the Principal Responsibilities of the job.
