About the role

We are seeking three dedicated and hardworking Patch Workers to help us maintain our high standards across Crawley’s parks, open spaces and residential areas.

As a Patch Worker you will lead a team carry out a wide range of grounds and environmental maintenance tasks, including grass cutting, hedge and shrub work, planting, litter collection, graffiti removal, fly‑tipping clearance and general upkeep of public spaces. You will also support seasonal operations such as snow clearance and gritting and assist with community events when required.

You will be able to operate a variety of vehicles, tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively, taking responsibility for their daily care and basic maintenance. A strong commitment to customer service, teamwork and personal professionalism is essential, as you will regularly engage with residents, support colleagues and volunteers, complete required paperwork and maintain a high standard of personal presentation.

The successful individuals will demonstrate excellent customer service, professionalism and a willingness to work outdoors in all conditions are essential. You will work in full compliance with council policies, procedures and safety requirements, including safeguarding responsibilities, PPE use and risk assessments.

You must be reliable, willing to learn new skills, able to work independently when necessary and be prepared to work flexibly across our Neighbourhood Services division and will have the physical capabilities to undertake the duties outlined.
Other duties may be assigned as required to support the effective delivery of the service.

We are recruiting for 3 vacant posts. These posts are based out of our depots located around the Crawley borough; we have one vacancy at each of the following areas. Ridleys Court Pound Hill, Bewbush Pavilion and Metcalf Way Manor Royal.

Additional information

Working hours Monday – Thursday 7am – 3pm, Friday 7am – 2:30pm

Extra hours may be required during the week, weekends and Bank Holidays, for which there will be additional remuneration in line with our Local Pay Agreement.

A full and current UK driving licence will be a requirement of the role.

Experience in leading Ground Maintenance teams is essential.
