    The work of the Data Team, Education Improvement & Standards, is focused on making a strong and effective use of data to contribute towards the improvement of Coventry’s schools. We provide quality management information to enable senior management and leaders within the Council and partner organisations to make effective decisions towards raising standards of educational achievement and improve life chances for children attending our schools.

    This includes:

    • Providing schools, senior managers and leaders across the council and partner organisations with quality, accurate and timely management information
    • Offering guidance and advice on all aspects of data to support decision making and improvement
    • Challenging and supporting schools and colleagues across a range of services to help children make good progress and achieve their maximum potential.

    What is the job role?

    The Data Team is recruiting an enthusiastic person to develop systems to capture, quality assure, analyse, report and present management data and performance intelligence to our customers in schools, external organisations and across the Council.

    This post will involve mainly working with data relating to children, which is stored on the local central pupil database and also on national systems funded by all local authorities.

    This is an ideal opportunity to anyone seeking to further develop their analytical and report writing skills using tools such as SSRS Report Builder and PowerBI.

    As part of the recruitment process, there will be an opportunity for you to give a presentation showcasing your analytical skills using data supplied to you ahead of the interview.

    Please note this is a Fixed Term 14-month contract.

    Who are we looking for?

    The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of issues impacting children and young people and how this might affect their life chances. They will also have an understanding of the role of schools, partner organisations and services across the Council in early identification of issues so that appropriate and timely support can be provided.

    Key Requirements:

    • A degree or equivalent experience
    • A good understanding of numerical data and statistical analysis.
    • A good understanding of tools such as MS Excel as a means of statistical analysis.
    • A good understanding of the importance of data accuracy.

    The post would suit colleagues looking to develop their skills within data analysis or, who are currently working within this discipline but wish to broaden their experience.

    Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and experiences related to:

    • Knowledge of IT packages, particularly MS Excel and, ideally, SSRS Report Builder and/or Power BI
    • Knowledge/experience of an analytical approach to data tasks
    • Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing priorities
    • Understanding of good customer service values
    • Basic knowledge of data protection implications
    • Accurate data inputting skills
