
Personal Assistant - Supporting individuals in the home and community
This is not a North Somerset Council vacancy. The successful applicant will not be employed by North Somerset Council.
This role is either self-employed or employed by the person in receipt of a Direct Payment.
About the role
We are looking for caring and reliable Personal Assistants to support people across North Somerset to live independently and lead the life they choose. As a Personal Assistant you will work directly for the individual you support or their family.

Who you might support
- Adults or children with physical or learning disabilities
- People with mental health needs
- Individuals and families using Direct Payments to arrange their own care
What the role may involve
Duties vary depending on the individual but may include:
- Household tasks such as cooking, shopping, meal preparation, light cleaning
- Supporting access to the community, work, or appointments
- Attending social or leisure activities
- Personal care and help with daily routines (not always required)
- Providing companionship and building a trusted relationship
What we are looking for
- Kind, patient, respectful and person-centred approach
- Reliable and trustworthy
- Good communication skills
- Ability to build strong, positive relationships
- Experience in care is helpful but not essential
Employment options
Employed Personal Assistants:
- Employed directly by the individual
- Set hours, pay, and contract of employment
- Entitled to paid leave and pension (where applicable)
Self-employed Personal Assistants:
- Work with one or more clients
- Set your own rates and hours
- Responsible for tax, National Insurance, insurance, and DBS
Important information
- Roles are arranged directly with individuals or families via Personal Assistants register
- Hours and duties vary depending on the role
- A new DBS check will be completed as is required for any Personal Assistants work

Salary range
- £13 - £17.15 per hour
