Planning Enforcement Monitoring Officer – Permanent

Planning Department

Salary Grade 5 £31,022 - £33,699 per annum

Full Time, 37 hours per week

Are you passionate about upholding the integrity of the planning system and ensuring development is delivered in line with approved plans? We are looking for a proactive and confident Planning Enforcement Monitoring Officer to join our team and play a key role in monitoring development, investigating breaches, and securing positive outcomes for communities.

This is a varied and rewarding role for someone who enjoys a mix of site-based work, investigation, negotiation and decision-making. You will work closely with developers, applicants, landowners and colleagues to ensure planning conditions are met, resolve issues wherever possible, and support formal enforcement action when needed.

What you’ll be doing

  • Monitor approved planning permissions and work proactively with applicants to ensure conditions are fully discharged and complied with.
  • Manage your own caseload of developments and suspected breaches through to resolution.
  • Carry out investigations, including site visits, reviewing approved plans and gathering evidence.
  • Prepare reports, make sound recommendations, and draft statutory notices where appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships and negotiate practical solutions before escalating to formal action.
  • Provide evidence or support legal proceedings where enforcement cases progress to court.

What we’re looking for

You will bring a strong understanding of planning law, enforcement best practice and investigations, together with excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills. You will be confident managing a busy and varied caseload, handling sensitive situations, and presenting evidence clearly to a range of stakeholders. Experience in planning enforcement or a related regulatory environment would be highly valued. A full UK driving licence and access to a car with business use insurance are essential.

If you are looking for an opportunity to make a real impact, work on a diverse range of cases, and help maintain high standards of development, we would love to hear from you.
