With increased development activity and a renewed focus on service excellence, this is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in upholding planning standards, supporting sustainable growth, and safeguarding the quality of life in our communities.

This is a career-graded post, offering structured development and clear progression. Whether you're starting your career or bringing experience from a related enforcement or regulatory role, we’ll support you to grow and succeed.

About you…

You don’t need previous planning experience. If you’ve worked in roles involving investigation, compliance, or public service such as policing, environmental protection, housing, or community safety you may already have the transferable skills we’re looking for. What matters most is your motivation, integrity, and willingness to learn.

We’ll provide tailored training and mentoring to help you build confidence in interpreting plans, writing reports, and applying planning legislation. You’ll need to be a team player with strong communication and negotiation skills, a proactive mindset, and a commitment to excellent customer service.

About the role….

Working within a supportive and experienced team, you’ll help deliver an effective planning enforcement service by investigating complaints, monitoring development sites, and resolving breaches of planning control.

You’ll collaborate with colleagues across Council departments, liaise with elected members and external stakeholders, and contribute to protecting Rutland’s unique character.

This is a meaningful and rewarding role with real scope to develop professionally and make a lasting impact on Rutland’s places and communities.

Please note the successful candidate will require a full driving licence to travel around the county.

Planning Enforcement Officer interviews will be held week commencing 24th November 2024 . Please be advised this could be subject to change, in which case we will give appropriate notice.

We will be reviewing applications on a regular basis and inviting those who meet our essential person specification criteria to interview. If you’re interested in this role, we strongly encourage you to apply without delay.
