Job summary

Working within the Portfolio and Project Management team, the PMO Lead will play a critical role in ensuring robust management of the strategic change portfolio within the Agency. You will be joining a talented team committed to making a positive impact on how initiatives are managed, successfully delivered, and benefits realised.

The team is dedicated to delivering a first-class customer service, resolving issues informally wherever possible, and taking an innovative and creative approach to portfolio and programme challenges. Job description

You will be comfortable supporting a strategic portfolio with complex P3M issues, enabling first-class delivery across programmes and projects. You will be proficient in core P3M practices, including governance, planning, risk management, and assurance, alongside strong stakeholder management skills and experience of working in a fast-paced and flexible environment. Strong P3M planning expertise is particularly valued.

You will be resilient and confident managing senior stakeholders, with discussions shaped by a clear understanding of the commercial and operational impacts of portfolio-level decisions. You will enjoy working in an innovative, engaging way and will be able to negotiate and persuade effectively.

As an experienced PMO professional, you will understand how to manage and support colleagues, demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively and inclusively as part of a high-performing team.

Person specification

  • Recognised certification in PPM (e.g., PRINCE 2, P3O, Agile Project Management Practitioner, PMI, MoP, MSP, MoR)
  • Strong knowledge of Agile and Waterfall methodologies
  • Familiarity with DDaT perspective, user-centred design, GDS Service Manual and Service Standard
  • Awareness of financial competencies, budget management, and cost control
  • Demonstrable experience in an agile environment
  • Demonstrable experience working within a project delivery environment with complex projects in the public sector
  • Proven track record in championing project delivery best practices
  • Ability to adapt swiftly to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in supporting professional development and continuous improvement within a project delivery community
  • Experience in identifying and challenging complex organisational processes, coaching teams through process implementation
