Job summary
This is a homeworking role however regular travel will be required to police forces, College of Policing sites and partner organisations across the UK.

Job description
We are looking for an experienced and credible Police Driver Training Licence Assessor to support the development, assurance and national consistency of police driver training across England and Wales.
Working within the Police Driving Training Licensing and Quality Assurance function, you will act as a national subject matter expert, providing professional advice, quality assurance and constructive challenge to police forces and partner organisations. You will play a critical role in assuring compliance with the Police Driving National Policing Curriculum, supporting continuous improvement and maintaining public confidence in police driver training standards.
This is a highly collaborative role requiring strong stakeholder engagement, analytical capability and the ability to operate with professional credibility in police driver training at force and national level.
Person specification
Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Quality assuring driver training licensing delivery across UK police forces through inspections, reassessments and evidence-based reporting.
- Reviewing assessment evidence and centre documentation, producing clear, evidence‑based reports that identify non‑compliance, highlighting good practice and setting out actionable improvement plans.
- Designing, developing and continuously improving national police driver training curriculum, assessments and learning products, ensuring they are current, evidence‑based and operationally relevant.
- Monitoring national consistency and interoperability of driver training standards, advising on corrective actions where required.
- Acting as a professional subject matter expert, representing the College at practitioner groups, working groups and governance forums, including engagement with NPCC‑led groups.
- Building strong working relationships with chief driving instructors, compliance managers and heads of training, supporting forces to achieve and maintain licensing standards.
- Analysing data and producing management information to support decision‑making and continuous improvement across the licensing system.
- Maintaining College driver training content on digital platforms and responding to internal and external professional enquiries.
To be successful in this role you’ll need:
- Qualified Police Driving Instructor in line with the Police Driving National Policing Curriculum.
- Qualified Level 4 trainer to College of Policing Standards (or willingness to achieve within 18 months)
- Current and competent assessor to College of Policing Standards
Experience, skills and knowledge
- Current and credible experience in police driver training and application of national standards.
- Experience of quality assurance, inspection or licensing activity, with the ability to produce robust, evidence‑based reports.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence, support and challenge professionally at senior levels.
- Experience of designing, developing or reviewing training and learning products using evidence‑based approaches.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present confidently to varied audiences.
- Strong planning, organisation and analytical skills, with confidence using data and management information.
- Ability to work flexibly, manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a national, fast‑paced environment.
